The Seaside Neighborhood School wants to offer your business the opportunity to become a sponsor in our biggest event of the year – the 9th Annual Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K Run, which is scheduled for Sunday, March 6, 2011. Heralded as the largest outdoor sporting event in the area and one of the top-ranked road races in the Southeast United States, we expect more than 3,000 runners to participate in the race this year. In total, our race attracts about 10,000 people to the area during race weekend. Our marketing efforts reach coast to coast, and our website is seen worldwide.
Last year's event sold out five weeks before race day, and we had runners from 41 states and 2 countries participate. Nearly 10% of these people visited our area for the first time. In addition to supporting the school, the event also contributes to the local economy. Through the weekend stays, food, beverage and shopping, the race generated more than $2 million for the South Walton community. The day before the race event we have a huge expo with running merchandise and sponsors presenting their goods. The weekend is a fun and exciting event for all who participate.
All proceeds from the race benefit the Seaside Neighborhood School (SNS), a public charter middle school in Walton County, Florida. Since it began operation in 1996, SNS has consistently been awarded an "A" rating by the Department of Education. We received the National Blue Ribbon Award for academic excellence in 2008, one of only 16 Florida schools to receive such a distinction.
Because we are a charter school, our funding is different from other public schools in Florida. Unlike most public schools, whose extra-curricular programs and capital improvement expenses receive state funding, SNS must raise funds to finance band, arts, athletics, technology, field trips, building costs, and building maintenance. We could not operate SNS without the support of individuals and businesses that so generously contribute to our school's mission. Our mission is simple – to provide students in Walton County with individualized and innovative instruction, delivered by quality teachers in a community-based, small-school setting.
